To become a pro, it takes more than just talent & dedication - it takes smarts.

It’s something about the Midwest. Maybe it’s corn-feeding, the beer, or the cheese – kids out here are just bigger. That means they also to be much better at football. State universities like University of Michigan, University of Ohio, Kansas State, and University of Iowa combined send hundreds of kids to the NFL each year. Many of these players come from the same states they play for, raising an interesting possibility – is there something about certain areas that makes their students better athletes and superior football players? Consider this. Starting in high school, Michigan football players have already made it through a number of cuts. The first cuts aim at weeding out any inferior athletes or players. A subsequent round of cuts is implemented at bigger schools that separate the students with enough talent and athleticism to play in college from other students, whose careers will probably end after high school. Among the former group, further divisions are made between Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 material in order to create “strings” of players – starters, relief bench players, and backup bench players. By the time a recruiter for a big NCAA school comes to watch a game, literally a dozen players have been eliminated for each player that does actually play the starting position on offense, defense, or special teams. What is it that makes some players better than others? Can it really just be a matter of Midwestern genetics, diet, and the obsession with football? Many of the coaches I’ve talked to who coach high school Michigan football players agree that beyond determination to become a better player and a better athlete, beyond natural ability and natural athleticism – studiousness can make a borderline college player into Division 1 material. Since football requires players to read other teams’ tactics and to respond to those in literally milliseconds, varsity players who take the time to study the game and their opponents will have a tremendous advantage, especially since – as they learn from watching instead of from a coach – they will internalize what they learn and be able to implement it with great efficacy. All an aspiring college athlete needs to do is take the advice of the great Midwestern coaches. A real love for football will make it easy to watch games played by great teams and the thousands of high school football video clips that are available online. Just by viewing, a player can intuit the common mistakes made by players and learn to avoid them, while also noting even just a few of techniques and strategies used by winning players to blow out opponent after opponent.

Sales Tips

Every firm reaches a point where it considers doing things a little differently. This is particularly true if it is a growing firm, or one that wants to reach the next level. It’s at this point that many measures are put on the table, eg, how do we get where we want to be? Sales outsourcing can be one way to get there. But, how do you know if it’s right for your firm?

Following are some sales tips to help you decide is sales outsourcing right for your business.

Overworked Employees: One of the first signs that it may be time to consider sales outsourcing is if your current sales force is overworked.

If they’re putting in 80 hour workweeks, are falling behind on processing necessary paper work and are barely able to sustain their current book of business, it may be time to outsource some sale functions.

Actually, this can be a sign that your organization is primed for growth. To achieve greater growth, you have to invest in your infrastructure. This includes your employees as well as any technology involved.

Customer Complaints on the Rise: This is one of the code red signs that it’s time to consider sales outsourcing. If your current customers aren’t being properly serviced by your existing sales force, then something’s broken.

It usually means that you either have an existing overworked sales force, or too small of a sales force, eg, there aren’t enough salespeople to keep up with customer demands. Sales outsourcing can provide the reinforcements you need.

New Product Introduction: If you’re considering bringing a new product or service to market, sales outsourcing allows you to hit the ground running, so to speak. With trained manpower, they can bring a new product or service to market with a speed and professionalism that will allow you to gain precious market share.

Sales outsourcing is an ideal way to provide much needed help to an existing sales force, keep current customers happy, and gain market share with new products and services.

Chicago Billboards

Four years ago, the mayor of Sao Paolo, Brail banned all billboard advertising because he considered it to be “visual pollution.” In that context, he was right to do so: literally tens of thousands of illegal billboards had been erected on slum rooftops, instilling a migraine into whatever passerby would even bother to make out just what brand, product, or service, was being advertised.

Thankfully for pedestrians and those considering advertising in Chicago, billboards are not noise pollution and are actually, per capita, rather sparse. This is especially good news for advertisers because it ensures that their message will stand out to passersby. And it is even better for businesses there because of the large-scale commute that takes place daily thanks to the city’s being a case study in suburban sprawl.

Chicago billboards placed along major commuter routes receive literally millions (some even ten million) eyeballs per day, amounting to over a billion views annually. Often for less than a tenth of a cent per view, advertisers have the ability to reach busy Chicagoans (and those just passing through) many times of day, making their brand top of mind. Studies have recently shown that people who are exposed to a weak or neutral brand message on a daily basis are far more likely to consume that brand’s product or service than people who are exposed to a strong brand message through television or radio advertising (which is why so many companies advertise on such large scales when they do run radio and television advertising campaigns.

For companies looking to get the biggest bang for the advertising buck, advertising on Chicago billboards represents the most efficient way to get noticed, get remembered, and to ultimately convert passersby into customers when they need your product or service in the future

Small Business Voip System

A difficult business climate requires bold business decision-making. But wouldn’t it be great if you could improve business without having to make game-changing strategic decisions? Thanks to the internet revolution it is now cheaper and easier than ever to boost your bottom line by converting from conventional phone service to VOIP.

VOIP, or voice over internet protocol (IP), is the transmission of voice over the already established internet infrastructure. Essentially, employing VOIP enables the user to make phone calls over the internet – basically free – instead of requiring a phone line. This enables the user to eliminate the need for a phone company who charges exorbitant fees for line maintenance, transmission, and the myriad call features that are the norm for phone service these days. Small businesses can therefore benefit immensely from a small business voip system because it will reduce one of the largest overhead expenses of a small business: the phone bill.

In order to set up a voip system, all that is really required is an internet connection and a series of internet-compatible phones. A small fee is paid for each unique phone number, though extensions or branches from that number are generally free. The user then needs to buy internet phones made especially for VOIP, which usually hookup to the existing network by way of Ethernet. Then a business can either buy PBX hardware to host their own VOIP phone network, though most instead choose to outsource the hosting to a company that specializes in small business VOIP. In this way, businesses are often able to save 70% or more (long-term) on phone bills and renew their own companies’ telecommunications infrastructure in the process.

While this tough economic climate surely requires creativity from business owners on the strategic side, it’s nice to know that cutting bills and laying the foundation for future business growth are not mutually exclusive

Everyone Wants Some of the Stimulus Package

In just a few days President Elect Obama will take the office which is set to become one of the biggest events this country has ever seen. Even though this is one of the greatest moments for this country there is unfortunately a lack of optimism due to this incredible financial crisis being left by the previous administration for the new president to deal with.

Obama has already said that one of his first acts as president will be to pass an economic stimulus package to help the failing economy get back on its feet.  Many different groups are already starting to clamor to try and get a chunk of this money. The association of utilities that represents almost 70 percent of the nation’s power industries have joined forces with environmental groups to lobby congress for part of the money.

This group will be asking Congress to include $33 billion dollars in this stimulus package for state and local government programs that will help reduce wasteful energy practices. The programs include weatherizing government buildings to reduce the amount of energy wasted every year. It will also allow companies including California air conditioning companies to install “smart meters” which will allow people to see exactly how much energy they are using and what it is costing them at any given time.

Experts agree that the reducing wasteful energy practices is not only the quickest way that this country can reduce the amount of energy that it uses it is also the cheapest and easiest to implement. It is a great way of reducing energy without making many sacrifices. There are already some states that have these incentives for example California electric companies are allowed to have variable rates so that they will not lose money for selling less electricity, but these groups will be asking for the practices and laws to be nationally implemented.

For the Bowling Enthusiasts

There’s a difference between the amateur bowlers and real enthusiasts. For those who just bowl an occasional game once in awhile with friends or family, owning your own bowling ball might not be a priority. You just don’t have enough committedness to the sport.

But for those bowling enthusiasts who live and breathe the game, owning their own bowling ball is imperative to their enjoyment of the game. The ball is pivotal to the sport, and having a sleek, customized ball brings a whole new dimension of style and class to the game. Plus, your own ball you can get customized to bring forth your own personality, etched with your initials or featuring the pendant of your favorite football team, for example.

And that’s just on the surface. Deep down, in the body of the ball, is where a ball’s personality is contained. The body determines the balance and spin of the ball, creating a pivotally fast spin or a steady finish, depending on your own bowling style. The allocations of the body determine the spin of the ball, and can be specifically designed to your strength and bowling style. A ball can be designed with a heavy center for easy spin or with a lighter center for a slower, steadier ball.

Also, a specialized bowling ball can be accustomed with holes specific to your finger ratios. Holes that have been correctly accustomed for your own fingers add more control to the ball, as well as a prime performance. Typically, bowlers using custom-accustomed finger holes can throw a two-pound heavier ball than one with more generalized holes. This adds leverage and weight to bowler’s throw, which results in a heavier average of pins down and a lot more strikes.

Plus, there’s the enormous pride you feel possessing your own ball. A slick ball stands out, brings attention to your game. Like different styles of sports cars, a ball says something about its individual owner. A good looking ball shows off its owner’s styles and tastes, not to mention his or her enthusiasm for the game.

Using a Plasma Cutter

The plasma cutter is tremendously important to modern building because it relies heavily on the handling and organization of metals and alloys. Because of their strength, metals and alloys are used to build tunnels, bridges and buildings, including the machinery that these sorts of jobs require, eg, cranes, excavation equipment and welding equipment.

The humorous thing is that metal’s strength is also its weakness. How is this? To explain, metal is extremely proficient at opposing damage. This varying trait also makes it complicated to work with, ie, control and shape into specialized parts. This is where the worth of the plasma cutter comes in.

A plasma cutter allows an iron worker, for example to precisely cut and shape metal into whatever they want it to be. For example, if an airplane wing needed to be built. A plasma cutter would be used to form the metal for it.
It would be hard to picture completing any number of huge construction jobs that require metal forming without using a plasma cutter. Given this, you may be wondering how the plasma cutter came to be such an important part of modern industry.

The History of the Plasma Cutter

The plasma cutter has been used since the Second World War, making it a pretty widespread tool. The need for it arose because during this time, plants and factories in the U.S. were making war supplies, eg, aircraft, armor, bullets, etc. at a rapid pace.

Because of the pace at which companies were cranking out these necessities, they were seeking ways to cut and join airplane parts more proficiently. Eventually, a new way of welding was introduced that led to sturdier, cleaner joint construction. The plasma cutter was an integral tool in this procedure.

The plasma cutter has literally shaped the world we live in – from the airplanes that fly in the sky to the subways that run beneath modern city streets.
