The time has come to move back to the USA from Europe. I can’t believe five whole years has gone by since my boyfriend Kurt, now my husband, and I moved here. We bought our home here in France four years ago and have had an absolutely charmed life here. Half of me wants to go home to see my family; the other half wants to stay here.

Kurt and I moved from the States to grow our network marketing business. The company had decided to open up for the first time in this country and we were the first to arrive. We worked very hard to build the business and our success has been nothing less than spectacular. Since living here, the company opened in Germany, Switzerland and Spain. Those countries are all so close; we were able to take the business into these countries as well. We have been truly blessed.

I found out we are going to have a baby. We’re both so excited and we want to be near the baby’s grandparents back home in the States when he/she is born. So, before I get too far along, we call the international moving company we used to move here and they agree to come in a month to pack up our home and move us back.

It feels good to have an international moving company we can trust. They did such a great job packing up our house, moving our cars and boat and even our two dogs last time. Everything and everyone arrived in perfect condition. I wouldn’t think of moving with another international moving company. When I called the international moving company, I even got the same agent. She was so friendly…she told me she’s expecting as well. She suggested a good real estate agent to sell our home here. I’ll definitely give him a call.

I’ve been thinking, I should give our international moving company’s agent a call again. I want to tell her about our business; see if she’d like to get involved. After all, she’s having a baby. She’d probably love to work from home.

I add that to my list of things to do and turn my attention to the task at hand – sorting things for a huge neighborhood garage sale this Saturday. I’m going to put everything in there we haven’t used this past year. I figure, if we haven’t used it in that period of time, we don’t need it.

I don’t know why, I’m at a loss to explain it, but all of the sudden I burst into tears…we’re moving! I am so going to miss this place I had come to think of as home. Did I really want to move back?

Everyone who has been in a house fire is likely to be eager to get back into their home and figure out just how much damage might have been done, but unfortunately if you are too eager to get this done, you might be putting yourself in danger if you do not make sure that your fire marshal says that you can re-enter the home. He or she will tell you if it is safe to go back in the home yet and you should never ignore this advice.

The next thing that you need to do is call your insurance company in order to file a claim. Give your insurance adjuster time to get there and take a look at the damage before you try to repair or move anything in the home. The electricity to your home should also be turned completely off in case there is standing water there from the fire trucks spraying it into the home. Electrocution is possible if the power to your home is not turned off.

Hiring a professional fire damage restoration company is recommended, since they can give you all kinds of advice as to what items in your home can be salvaged and they know how to go about repairing damage to the floors and walls. Their services might run on the expensive side, but using them instead of trying to fix your furniture and floors on your own will probably save you money in the long run.

Anything in your home that got wet from the fire hoses should be dried out as soon as you can and any standing water swept out of the home. Any other water should be soaked up with towels. Sometimes carpets can be saved if you take the time to treat them properly, but it is best not to walk on wet carpet that has soot and ash all over it. This will set them further into the fibers and make it extremely difficult to get out.

Since water damage to your floors is a serious issue depending on how much water was pumped into your home, you should do your best to dry out the carpet as soon as possible. Mold will set in after a couple of days of being wet and once carpet gets moldy, it is better to throw it away most of the time than to try and clean it. Molded carpet padding must always be thrown away. It cannot be cleaned.

You might not know it, but if a vehicle is caught in a flood and is partially or even entirely submerged, it isn’t always taken off to the junk yard for scrap. Many times these card are sold through salvage auctions, taken to far off locations, and cleaned up for re-sale. It’s not often the case that these cars that are being re-sold are identified as having been flooded before.

There are a lot of things you should know about water damaged vehicles. Any vehicle that has sustained water damaged is susceptible to mold growth in the vehicle’s interior, especially if the vehicle was allowed to sit untreated in warm temperatures and dry naturally. If the doors to the car or truck have been left shut and it’s been let to try naturally, the musty odor inside will be very prevalent and you won’t have to have any kind of training to detect it. Some dishonest car dealers (or private owners trying to get rid of the car) will try to mask the smell of the water damage with all manner of air fresheners and if you smell anything pleasant while looking inside a car that obviously isn’t brand new, you should probably walk away because they’re hiding something.

Look for any kind of rust in the interior of the car and the trunk, especially near the taillights and check the carpeting for signs of damage. Carpet that has soaked up water and hasn’t been properly treated will most likely stink, especially if it’s been submerged in the sewer water that’s often brought to the surface by flooding.

You might think that if the water dries out, the engine of the vehicle will be just fine, but this probably isn’t the case if it hasn’t been restored by a professional. Sewage, sand, and other debris could have seeped into it and cause misfirings and blown gaskets.

Water damaged vehicles can also suffer electrical problems, especially in newer models where most things are monitored electrically like timing on headlights, the radio, when the oil needs to be changed, and all the way down to how many miles are on the car.

Unless the carpet and its padding were removed and the interior cleaned by a professional and the car was submerged in sewer water, high levels of bacteria and mold are very possible, too.

Paying for a vehicle history from Carfax.com could be beneficial if you get the car’s VIN, but please be aware that the car will only show up as having been flood damaged if an insurance agent has looked at the car and it was recorded. If the vehicle history report doesn’t show it was flooded, but it appears to be water damaged, back away. You’re likely to find a better deal somewhere else.

If you have a water bottle or you are a parent who has baby bottles and you are constantly having to replace them due to the insides (or the lids) becoming moldy, there is hope. Sometimes the odd shapes of the bottles are what keep them from drying out completely and when they do not dry all the way, mold starts to grow. The best thing that you can do to prevent mold from growing in your baby bottles is to not even bother trying to dry the inside completely after you’ve washed them. Simply dry the outside, dry as much of the inside as you can, and then stick them in the freezer. Many people put things like flour and cornmeal into the freezer to protect them from mice, bugs, and other pests, so why not do this to stop mold?

Clothes can also be a good source of food for mold, but some people are at a loss as to what they can do to stop mold from growing in their closets. The first thing that you can do is not pack your clothes in the closet so tightly together. Allowing air to circulate through the closet and amongst the clothing will hinder the mold’s growth.

Tossing dirty, damp clothes or towels into the bathroom closet or on the floor anywhere and just leaving them there can also cause mold to grow. Mold needs moisture, warmth, and a source of nutrients.

Mold has also been known to grow in mattresses that have gotten wet and have been allowed to dry naturally. Mattresses that are re-used over and over, especially in baby beds, are unsanitary and should be thrown away if they are found to be contaminated with mold. A study that comes from New Zealand says that when mold gets into a mattress (particularly Scopularipsis brevicaulis) and begins to feed on the mattress material. The danger of this is that the mattress probably contains antimony, arsenic, or phosphorus are used as fire retardants by law in some places. The mold digests these chemicals and as all organisms do when they digest something, gases are released back into the air. These gases are toxic to human beings and it is speculated in New Zealand that this is the main cause of crib death and it is not “unavoidable”, as many North American studies claim.

When it comes to practicing your guitar, there are literally thousands of teaching methods available. Basic, logical and effective practice habits are an essential building block for any guitarist. You can’t get away from the concept of dedicating a certain amount of time everyday with out any excuses to practice your discipline.

Guitar tools considered standard tools for practicing the guitar, such as a metronome and tuner are indispensable, however there may be ways to improve your skills right under your nose. People can be very imaginative, and come up with some terrific, out of the box practice methods that are quite unique and helpful.

Perhaps it is not unique, but one method I use and really enjoy since it is not as much work as a structured practice session, is to play to the television. The strategy is fun and really develops your ear to find ‘tones’ and the ‘keys’ and improve timing issues in a realistic way. We all watch television to some extent. The music used in different types of shows is fun to emulate in terms of how fast you can figure out what ‘key’ it is in and even the type of ’scale’ being used.

Simply put, television commercials and shows use music that is suitable for the medium. Meaning, a suspenseful ‘Law and Order’ episode may have a lot of tension in the notes played, especially before the ‘dicks’ find the unfindable clue. Commercials such as the ‘Cialis’ ( erectile disfunction medicine ) has a great lead-in slideable chord that is a great ‘measure of music’ to play with.

Since I mainly watch sporting stuff, I hear certain types of commercials that relate well to sports lovers. Maybe you have seen the car commercials for Nissan and I think Chevrolet too, and even the NFL, they use Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Pride and Joy” as their song. Well, I know this song pretty well, but it is fun, and Stevie Ray is one of my influences. I hear tunes and songs on television shows also that force me into quick ‘key’ and ’scale’ decisions. For the little time I spend in front of the television, I get a lot of real world practice at these two important elements of music mentioned above.

I call it multi-tasking. Watching television and playing the guitar! Try it, but don’t forget the logical and effective methods for practicing your guitar that allowed you to play with the television. Now your mom or wife can’t say TV is a worthless waste of time! Enjoy.

Guitar Players Center is dedicated to answering the unusual guitar questions and providing information you can use. Check it out and leave a comment or share the information. Play on.

About as ubiquitous Metropolitan Opera or Save the Hudson dinners on every well-heeled New Yorker’s calendar each year is a kitchen remodel. Countless New Yorkers from all walks of life have recently (it seems) discovered that money spent on kitchen design is money well spent – not only because it makes the kitchen a better place in which to cook (as opposed to going out) but also because it builds home equity by raising the value of the home to prospective buyers. Smart New Yorkers realize that new kitchens translate into new wealth, and rich New York dwellers are more and more discovering that artistically designed custom kitchens, especially those featuring contemporary design, are what the market wants, and what any great (private) chef would be privileged to cook in.

That explains why Italian kitchens in New York have become so prevalent. Sleek lines, shiny custom cabinetry in bright colors, and functional layouts make the Italian kitchen design aesthetics extremely appealing to all renovators, and especially the wealthy, who feel that the Italian aesthetic is an artistic reflection of NYC itself, which is consummately Art Deco. Italian kitchen designers in NY incorporate the finest materials and appliances in bold ways to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

What’s more, such spaces distinguish that Brooklyn Brownstone from that Soho loft with the huge chef’s kitchen making the home in which it is found worth much more than it might otherwise be worth. Veteran chefs will of course scoff at these innovations as huge Stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and heavy wood cabinetry loses its appeal in the face of style; nevertheless, there is something to be said for a space that is able to blend beauty and practicality, and Italian kitchens seem to do that extremely well.

Marketing is nothing new, in fact since the inception of community, bartering and trading has become a way of life centuries ago from spice trading, the trading of furs for meat, food and other geographical specialties. However, now with the inception of technology, global trade and commerce is not an Orwellian dream, it is a reality.

The marketplace has always been about accessibility, convenience, price (value) and the value proposition. However, now more than ever search engine marketing is at the helm of millions of individuals worldwide. The bottom line is, visibility equates to exposure, exposure is the basis of the numbers game. You either have great content and appear as a result of popularity (from others linking to you) or you need search engine optimization services to elevate your content to a notable level.

Search engine marketing is nothing new, in fact all started with banners when the web was released and has now transitioned into utilizing the assets of a pages real estate to create content and context for supporting like minded or sites and pages that have affinity with each other.

By focusing on this key metric of continuity, relevance and supportive values, affiliates, e-tailers, companies from traditional off-line channels and entrepreneurs alike can start at ground zero and market their wares to the masses through creating appealing sites with intriguing content.

Search engine optimization and optimization services are only one part of the equation, getting the traffic is half the battle, keeping it is the hard part. The typical online surfer suffers from information overload, to remedy this not only is what you say important, but how you say it and how relevant it is to the surfers original intention.

You’ve just been hired for a new job in Palo Alto. Employee stock options are part of your compensation and benefits package. “That’s great,” you think to yourself. “But what are they?”

Employee stock options are an optional benefit that companies can offer their employees. It means that you have to option to purchase stock in the company. If the company does well, the stock rises, and when the stock rises, those who purchased the stock receive financial benefit from it.

Let’s say that in the case of your new job in Palo Alto, employee stock options are offered to all employees. Those that purchase them are motivated to work harder for the benefit of the company. If your hard work benefits the company and the stock rises, then your hard work also benefits you. Companies offer employee stock options as an incentive to do good work. This limits the resentment towards upper management who benefit from lower-level employees’ hard work.

If you treat employee stock options as you would other stocks, it can be a great investment. Consider where the company stock is at the time of your hire, and what differences you can make. If you feel the stock is on the rise, take the option.

When you are invited for a job interview, it pays to be prepared, and part of being prepared is knowing ahead of time how you are going to do certain things that will give you a competitive advantage. ITS helps you do this in six ways because it teaches you how to:

(1) Read the interviewer’s personality

(2) Maximize personal chemistry in minutes

(3) Communicate through memorable stories

(4) Have good questions ready

(5) Know all about the employer

(6) Answer difficult questions easily

ITS provides some guidance in both print and audio. Things you can learn include how to overcome objections while building rapport, how to select and prepare references, how to answer common questions, and much more. The surprising thing is, it does not take a person that long to be thoroughly prepared in all these areas, and once they’ve done the preparation, they’re set for the entire job search.

Many job seekers will find one section particularly interesting. It is titled ‘5 Proven Rules For Interviewing Success.’ It gives you detailed instructions on how to build personal chemistry in a number of ways, how to pay compliments, for example, without coming across as giving empty flattery, how to ask questions that direct the discussion to areas you know will help you, and how to follow up and project enthusiasm. Of course, researching employers ahead of time is always important, for several reasons, and ITS has a number of resources that enable job seekers to quickly learn a lot, not only about a company, but also about the industry and, backgrounds of key individuals in the company.

ITS offers Personal Marketing Services that goes far beyond Outplacement Career counseling. ITS uses its own unique technology to give job seekers access to as much as 85% of the advertised openings, including those from newspapers, recruiter openings, job boards, employer sites, and trade magazines. It also provides access to the unadvertised job market among employers, recruiters and growth companies.
